Make Letter Stencils

Stencil can be a piece of paper, transparencies, or thin sheets of metal in which letters or designs are cut so as to get the same design or letters as and when you want on another smooth material. These stencils can be used for practical purposes or decorative purposes.

You do not need to rush to a craft store for getting a letter stencil, now you can make your own letter stencils of any font or size you wish to. Here is how to create your own stencils. You will require the following materials: Frosted plastic sheet 11x14" from any craft store, Exacto knife, tape or pins, your letters of your desired font and size and magazines or cardboard for padding.

To make Letter stencil place you’re padding material on a hard surface. Make sure your letters are to scale. Place the frosted plastic sheet on top and fix it with the help of tape or pins so as to fix it properly and then draw all the letters. Now cut the letters neatly. Your letter stencil is ready.

If you want to try different font style to make letter stencil all you need to do is download that font from computer and get a printout, then place that print under a transparency and draw the outlines with the help of a marker and cut them down neatly. Your letter stencil is ready.

Apart from this a stencil can be printed out either on regular pages or on cardstock for repeated use. Once printed you the letters can be neatly giving you the stencil.

If you intend to make printable letter stencils the easy way is through the use of Photoshop software where you can personally design your alphabets, and can even alter their sizes or get get different designs on the letters. Once done get the print of the final decided pattern and trace it on acetate paper. And tape it on what ever you want to create the design through the paint with the help of a brush or sponge. You can get your unique design easily.

These letter stencil are made on paper for one time use, on board for a few use and on metal sheets for any time use, these are long lasting and durable but takes a lot of effort to cut.while cutting a stencil you need to insure from where to cut and from where to leave so that the stencil is intact in one piece. Always use a thin knife to cut smooth edge. You should hold the knife as if you are holding a pen while you want to cut the surface.
